About This Group

Many of the technologies developed for scientific purposes at CERN have great potential to impact and benefit society at large.

CERN has been a partner of GHF for the past editions showcasing our interest in contributing to the Global Health community. In 2022, CAFEIN, a federated platform created at CERN for developing and deploying AI-based analysis and prediction models, was nominated for the Jet d’Or Innovation award.

We have a fund that backs CERN technologies with a strong potential to support the UN SDGs. E.g. BioDynaMo, among other things, can act as an efficient agent-based model for dengue transmission, considering environmental factors, human immunology and behaviour, showcasing realistic scenarios for dengue control and elimination.

In summary, we are confident that CERN’s technology portfolio can play a role in developing solutions to unmet global needs in alignment with SDG3, “Good Health and Well-being”. For instance, the ability to gather and analyze data acquired using remote sensing technologies allows fast determination of the needs of affected communities. Digital tools allow better communication and coordination among aid organizations and affected communities.

We propose to leverage the GHF network to set up a workshop to identify applications of CERN’s know-how in this field.
