Under the terms of the Lausanne Declaration, the World Anti-Doping Agency was established on November 10, 1999 in Lausanne to promote and coordinate the fight against doping in sport at the international level. WADA was established as a foundation at the initiative of the IOC, with the support and participation of intergovernmental organizations, governments, administrations and other public and private bodies involved in the fight against doping in sport.

Our main office is located in Montreal, Canada and we also have offices in Cape Town, South Africa; Lausanne, Switzerland; Montevideo, Uruguay and Tokyo, Japan.

WADA's regional offices play a key role in engaging partners in these regions of the world. The activities of the regional offices are aligned with the Agency's strategic organizational priorities. These offices focus their efforts on collaboration and assistance to partners. In particular, they have the following responsibilities

  • liaising with public authorities and regional sport organizations
  • Supporting regional partners in developing their anti-doping programs and in achieving and maintaining compliance with the World Anti-Doping Code
  • Supporting capacity building through programs for regional anti-doping organizations;
  • Assisting in the implementation of education programs;
  • facilitating the collection of contributions to WADA in each region.

The Lausanne office also acts as the first point of contact and integrated support for international federations, other partners in the sporting movement and other partners at the regional level.
