The Directorate-General for Health (DGS Direction Générale de la Santé en fraçais) is responsible for promoting healthy conditions and behaviour. It coordinates the actors in the health field, protects consumers and ensures the availability of quality care.

Its belongs to the Department of Security, Population and Health (DSPS).

It is divided into 6 services

  • Health Professions and Patients' Rights Supervisory Commission
  • Service of Digital Health, Health Economics and Planning
  • Service of Consumer and Veterinary Affairs
  • Cantonal Pharmacist Service
  • Cantonal Physician Service
  • Service for the Care Network (SRS)

The State of Geneva provides the necessary conditions to enable the population of Geneva to live in good health for as long as possible. The health promotion and prevention policy aims to increase life expectancy in good health by promoting physical, mental and social well-being at all ages. Its scope covers a wide range of measures that can prevent or delay the onset of most preventable diseases. It does this by addressing both health risks and opportunities throughout the life course.
