In Latin Switzerland, each canton has a federation of organizations active in international cooperation. Since 2005, the federations have developed a collaborative network: the Network of Cantonal Federations for International Cooperation of Latin Switzerland (FEDERESO).
FEDERESO is an informal network that exists thanks to the dynamics of its seven cantonal federations and a coordination structure that encourages, animates and stimulates collective action and reflection.
As umbrella organizations, the seven cantonal federations have a combined membership of more than 260 organizations. They maintain close ties with their respective municipalities and cantons as well as with the Swiss Confederation via the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
In 2021, the cantonal federations co-financed almost 290 projects: development cooperation projects in partner countries, but also information and knowledge-sharing projects in Switzerland for an amount of 17.8 million Swiss francs.
FEDERESO and the cantonal federations base their action on the Agenda 2030, an international agreement aimed at rallying all countries of the world around 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The cantonal federations regularly organize information events to highlight the importance of the Agenda 2030.
More information can be found in the FEDERESO presentation leaflet, in French, German or Italian, or by reading about the role and importance of the cantonal federations.
