Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international medical humanitarian non-governmental organization (NGO) founded in 1971 in Paris. It provides assistance to populations whose lives or health are threatened by armed conflict, epidemics, pandemics, natural disasters or exclusion from healthcare.

The international MSF movement is made up of 25 independent associations united under a single charter. All of them are under the responsibility of a Board of Directors and a President, elected by their members at an annual general meeting.

MSF Switzerland is one on the 6 operational sections of MSF (Paris, Brussels, Barcelona/Athens, Amsterdam, Geneva and Abidjan).

In 2021, MSF Switzerland was active in more than 26 countries.

It was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 19992.
