The Swiss Foundation for Global Health, created in 1967, aims to encourage and support, through financial and material assistance, all projects pursuing a goal similar to that of the World Health Organization, namely that of bringing all peoples to the highest possible level of health.
The Swiss Foundation for Global Health (SFGH) was established on January 26, 1967 by the former President of the Swiss Confederation F.T. Wahlen, the National Councillor K. Furgler, Prof. Dr. A. Franceschetti of the Faculty of Ophthalmology at the University of Geneva. Franceschetti of the Faculty of Medicine in Geneva, as well as V.-H. Umbricht, delegate of the Board of Directors of Ciba SA. On April 6 of the same year, the FSSM joined the Federation of World Health Foundations created on January 3, 1967 and including the World Health Foundations of Canada, Great Britain and the United States.
Since 2007, the Foundation's activity has focused on awarding two annual prizes to people who contribute to health promotion in the course of their work:
